Characterized by a state of restlessness and a compulsive urge to rush, this pattern leads to overcommitting and overscheduling every minute. It creates a dangerous cycle of over-functioning that can result in heart disease, insomnia, decision-making fatigue, and strained relationships.

The term was originally coined by cardiologists Meyer Friedman and Ray Rosenman in 1974, who defined it as a "continuous struggle and unremitting attempt to accomplish or achieve more and more things in less and less time."
